July 1996, on the radio the first Internet café open its door in Dakar, Senegal. Métissacana her name. Cool, what an exciting news, Just 7 years after the invention of the World Wide Web by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989. Like a Big ceremony for me, I’m waiting until Saturday night to get fresh dressed, smell good and go visit my first Internet café.

This is it, Saturday. I ask money to dady, he asks me if I go to the Snooker Palace for gaming ?

Not dad I’m going to Métissacana, discovering the Internet.

After a Carrapide ride, jump out on Sandaga, still a little walk, arrived to Métissacana at a big open door, entering, work through a long corridor asking the Internet café, turning right, some step again to my left saw a room with a glass door and computers inside. Entering, a filling of cold, asking to a man who look at me very strangely. “How mush for the Internet?”

And is first word did you know surfing ?

I’m hit and freezing and don’t know what to answer, silence for few second. I look on computer and say “yes”.

For one hours 1500 CFA franc, half 1000 CFA franc.

“1 hour it’s ok”. Decides to discover the internet and I am walking toward the computer, sat, put hand on the mouse say to myself it’s not my first time with à computer, not to be worried and I lock at the screen and say

What a hell is surfing ?
